This contemporary living room does away with neutral palettes and injects a sense of fun by using vibrant contrasting colors of orange, black, terra cotta, green, pink and grey. As well as adding patterns which are not usually lumped in together like diagonals, uneven dots, and herringbone ties the room together.
This spacious open terra cotta orange living room merges the Victorian with a contemporary theme. The vintage chandelier, intricately patterned fireplace, stone floors, wrought iron corner tables, vases, antique rug, and candelabra gives off the vibes from a bygone era, while the cozy all-white sofa, fluffed-up pillows, and polished wood center table are truly inviting.
Selecting orange as a dominant color in your living room may seem a little bold, and maybe even a little tacky if you think of the use of orange in living rooms in the 1970s. Today, the color orange and all of its different shades look attractive and inviting in all styles of living rooms.
Out of the 552,888 living rooms and 14 colors analyzed, 1.76 percent (or 9,747) have orange as the dominant color.
Choosing Orange as Your Dominant Design Color
If you're a fan of Eclectic or Contemporary Design, the color orange is a great choice. Although the color orange can mean different things to different people, in general, orange represents energy, balance, warmth, vitality, and enthusiasm.
Even though orange is often considered "youthful and adventurous," as you browse our gallery of Orange Living Rooms, you will notice that many of the living room designs are Traditional or Country. Whichever living room design you prefer, a shade of orange can look attractive and inviting.
Accenting With Orange
Painting your living room orange can be a little bit of a visual overload for some but if you still want to incorporate an orange hue start with some accents. Arranging orange pillows, of various patterns, on your neutral colored couch can be a great starting point.
You can also make orange a focal point by showcasing an orange rug in the center of the room or a large, circular ottoman in a shade of the warm hue.
Choosing the Right Shade of Orange
If orange isn't typically your "go to" color, you may forget or not even realize that there are shades of orange beyond that of an orange or pumpkin. Even if you're not a self-proclaimed fan of the color orange, you may surprise yourself when you browse all the different shades.
While a carrot orange shade may not feel like color suitable for your living room, you might feel more at home with a shade of Bittersweet or even Coral.
Incorporating Other Colors
If you want to make orange a dominant color in your living room, you may want to balance it out with other colors that work well with orange. For example, gray, brown, and olive look best with a light-orange will cherry or a pale yellow can look great with a dark orange. Blue, lilac, and cyan look striking with a shade of classic orange.
More Orange Living Room Ideas
In my opinion, the best way to incorporate orange into your living room is to use only a little. For example:
- An orange accent wall;
- An orange sofa;
- A couple of orange chairs;
- Orange throw pillows;
- Orange sofa blanket (see above – very nice)
- Orange decor elements such as vases, rug, art, etc.
While some of the examples below overdo it, you can use them all to learn what you like and don't like about orange color schemes.
This living room is brightened by both the daylight and the wall painted in bright orange. The paintings leaning on the wall and the armchair also give a bit of orange to the room, as do the large orange art books on the center table and the patterned throw pillows on the sofa set.

The orange here is so bright that it looks like this room exploded with the striking color scheme. The sofa set and stools, lampshades and floor rug are all orange, but they're matching and cool. A little extra touch of the same color is provided by the flower vases and blossoms.
Incorporating a little orange into the living room can give a nice and sleek contrast to an off-white or pure white color scheme. The furry rug on the wooden floor, a couple of shelves, the corner wall and the throw pillows are in shades of orange, and they look great. Of course, the focal point is the matching orange decorative accents on the center table: the flower vase and the candles.
The exposed wood beams on the ceiling would normally be the attention catchers here, but not with the wall and ceiling painted in bright orange! The wall paintings, floor rug, and the hanging pendant lights creatively decorated with artsy covers all have accents of orange too. And did you notice the orange-striped wooden desk camouflaged against the wall?

Relax on this soft, comfortable orange sofa set with daybed. Their orange covering is actually quite attractive and stylish, even though not everyone would dare to add orange furniture to their living room. The design is balanced with a large orange centerpiece dish and a floor rug with some orange patterns.
This orange sofa set sits comfortably in an open concept interior right next to the kitchen, where there's a matching tray of fruit. Over toward the windows are orange bird of paradise flowers.
The bright orange leather sofa set in this living room is quite stunning and bright alongside the yellow armchair, center table and wall.

Some orange yellow throw pillows add a bright contrast to a warm toned interior. A few pendant lights, paintings and a floor rug supplement the orange accents in this simple yet fabulous looking living room. The silhouette curtains are in light orange too.
The fancy leather chairs and throw pillows in orange are stunning against the white background. The orange accented white floor rug displays a matching color scheme on the floor. The decorations on the center table, as well as the blossoms and twigs in the corners, are also orange.
Aside from the orange accents in the living area, the dining area behind it stuns with a chic and stylish orange pendant light and an orange dining set on the dining table.
What looks more stunning in orange – the colorful and striking artwork on the brick stone fireplace or the leather sofa set? These two pieces highlight the room and give it a lively tone. The bright daylight coming from the glass wall helps a lot to keep the living room well lit.

The slick orange wall and sofa stool stand out boldly in this living area. A few throw pillows are orange too, but they blend in with the red colors from the patterned floor rug, throw pillows and artwork. Daylight coming from the open blinds makes the whole place gleam.
Orange looks very attractive when paired with green, doesn't it? Take a look at the orange wall with the leaning frame of green shaded artwork, the green palms, and the throw pillows. They are all quite lively. The grey tone allows the bright colors to stand out, especially on the ceiling with the orange centerpiece and green pendant light. Let's give credit to the orange blossoms in the grey vase too!
Name all the orange things in this image. Well, let's start it with the pair of orange armchairs, the orange tray on top of the ottoman, the orange patterns on the bolster pillow, and some orange accents on the artwork hanging on the wall. These bright colored items seem to highlight what could otherwise be a gloomy living room and give it a cheerful atmosphere.

Orange never fails to give life to a dim and lonely living room. The wall in bright and cheerful orange is supported with the orange throw pillows and orange cloth resting on the sofa.
The bright sofa and throw pillows seem so emphasized and highlighted that you might think this was edited in Photoshop. However, nothing has been altered here! It is just the pure power of design and color choice. The designer has done a great job of choosing an orange sofa set along with accented throw pillows and orange tulip blossoms as the centerpiece.
The orange leather sofa is the glamour in the spotlight of this living room. A few touches of orange can also be found on the conversation pieces atop the glass center table, like the orange tray and orange plated crown.

The orange patterns in different palettes on the accent wall playfully juxtapose light to dark shades of orange arranged in tiny squares. The geometrical sense of this orange design also works perfectly with the sofa set, while the orange floor lamp shows off its own shade.
This is a stunning contemporary design with plain and simple surfaces and forms. Bright daylight from a large glass door strikes the orange sofa set and orange patterned floor rug on the wood parquet flooring.
A variety of orange touches and shades are found in here. Artsy orange shades in the painting, light orange on the floor rug, orange cloth on the leather seat, and some orange throw pillows all go together in this slightly rustic and old fashioned living room. They obviously light up the room.

The simple orange background wall, a few books stacked as a centerpiece, and the fireplace panel decor are enough to brighten up this living room's otherwise monotonous color scheme.

The delicate color selection of this living room departs from common living room color schemes by incorporating orange. The center ottoman mounted with a chess board and oversized pieces, the vase, window bench, firewood holder and the artwork are all eye catching.

When you look at this, the first things to pop out as attractive are the ones in bright colors – especially the bright pair of armchairs and the red throw pillows opposite. Their looks are particularly emphasized in contrast with the grey.
